Peru Social DataPeru is a very fun, cultured place. It bursts with colors, especially at it's many festivals. Peru also is religious, and it's population is currently 31,280,232 people, and about 88% are Catholic. There are other religions, but Catholicism is the most prominent. This was because of the Spanish takeover in 1532. Peru is the oldest civilization in South America, having been part of the Incan Empire. After the Spanish takeover, Peru has had many, many Catholic centered festivals, and they cook very well. They partake in very good food, cooking and eating, called gastronomy.

In Peru, the literacy rate is 89.6%. However, Peru's 15 year old pupils rank in the bottom for math, science, and reading. Schools are funded either privately or publicly, and it is a priority to have an education. In Peruvian schools, the highest you can go in school is university, and that is for up to 5 years. Catholicism is the only religion taught in school, and this could be a problem if you were raised with a different religion.
